Other buddies (86-96)

The friends I made during my days in Campion

Ashher Siddiqui (Big Bull/ Ashu Baby): An amazing combo of brains mixed with brawn! Man, u gotta see him pump iron! He's built like an iron-safe. We wr partners at the Inter-House GK competition in 1995-96, when we literally wiped out the oppostion. After that we wr together in JC too, playing up like crazy at Sinhals (tuitions). We had some amazing times on the bus with Puran, Mahesh, Chetan, Amit. He was the guy who originally coined the theorem: "At any given hour of the day, 123 (the bus we used to take to go to JC, as well as for Sinhals) always has a bomb on it !!!" Ashher's doing ETRX at Saboo Siddik College of Engg, with our buddy Ms.Namita Purohit (shhhhhhhh. she callsh it Shaboo Shiddik!!!).

Sudarshan Ramakrishnan (IIT): Suddu's easily the biggest brain Campion ever produced. Made it to the IIT's and also managed to hit the Top-10 of the Merit List in the HSC exams. We get along like a house on fire, even on the basketball court.......especially from 3 pt range! Well, what can I say......wonder if it was a matter of brains! Suddu was also my partner in the "whitewash" (I was in the white/Loyola house) of 1995-96. Suddu's doing EEE at REC Tiruchi.

Mustali Barma (Mus): Mustali and I were in the same class from 1st-6th, after which he went off to Oxford (his father is a physicist) for a year. when he returned, he was put into the A division (I was in B), much to our chagrin. We used to call him "The man from Burma", just because of his surname. He's one of the few guys who's got an amazing vocab. He's doing Industrial Electronics at Bharatiya Vidyapeeth, Pune.

Rohan Narayan (Gangu): Rohan's a top class Badminton champ, even plays for UPenn where he's doing his Bachelor's in Biz Admin....(for all u ignoramuses...the biz skool at Upenn, is also known as Wharton !). The nickname came from a character he played in one of the plays we put up at a Scouts Camp.

Sudhanshu Bhuwalka (Skywalker): Bhuwalka....Bhuwalker....Earthwalker (Bhu=Earth)...Skywalker. This was courtesy Mr.Ashher, who noticed that the chap had this great liking for Skywalker. We were partners at innumerable Inter-School quizzes, the most notable of them being the Bournvita Quiz 1994-95. Having travelled the length and breadth of India with the chap, I have a collection of stories about the chap, but then most of them are too embarassing for the chap. It still amazes me as to how the chap's name wasnt on the passenger-list/ waiting list/ RAC list of the Gitanjali Xpress on our return journey from Calcutta to Bombay. Ashher's dad (who's in the Railways) had booked the tickets for us.........I believe that it has something to do with the argument Bhu had with Ashher the day before we left. Ashhu prefers to remain tight-lipped over the matter!

Gautam Thatte (The Reich): This chap was really obsessed with Hitler. I've walked up and down College Street in Calcutta looking for "Mein Kampf" with the dude. Another amazing quizzer, Gautam's doing Computers at Harvey Mudd (???!!!) somewhere in California. He really loved ripping Bhuwalka's arse apart during our travails all over the country.

Dhir Bhattacharya : Dhir was also part of the Q-team. A little pocket of brains. He actually hails from.......Trinidad!

Joseph Noronha (Josie): Ah, Josie! Josie was a yr senior to me and was another member of the Q-team. He had this awful habit of passing comments about women. It all stopped when he came across Ms.VR at Cascades 1993 at Jamnabai Charsee (actually it's Jamnabai Narsee) School. Their paths crossed at many a quiz (so did my path!!), but ultimately somewhere down the line, something happened Josie's doing his engg at Sardar Patel, Andheri.

Siddhartha Raja : Like urs truly, Sid is a great quizzer and also a U2 freak. We first went head to head in Nov 94 at the West Zone Finals of Bournvita, with the Campion-Cathedral rivalry in our heads......we came out of it as the best of friends. He's the original guy who made me believe that the thing about Campion and Cathedral being rivals was a load of horse-shit. I'm grateful to the bloke for a lot of things.

Sameer Kuthiala : Kutti is one kute chap! Unlike most Cathedralites, he's a damn quiet chap. But then he was "kind enugh" to let me know that I wasn't exactly compatible with a certain person! Well, what can I say, the chap was on target! He's doing his degree in Engg in Singapore.

Tarun Theogaraj (TJT): Tarun was an excellent debater, and won quite a few Inter-School Debating and Elocution competitions. Another voracious reader, he was the Head Librarian along with Ashher in the 10th. Tarun's doing Elecs at VJTI, Mumbai.
